Tasman Revival 2008
The Tasman Series, which we call tasmanrevival, tasman revival or even 1960s tasman revival, was a series of races held at venues in Australia such as Warwick Farm, Sandown, Lakeside, Longford, Surfers Paradise, and in New Zealand at Pukekohe, Levin, Wigram, Teretonga.
Drivers such as Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Jack Brabham, John Surtees, Frank Gardner, Chris Amon, Jackie Stewart, Bruce McLaren, Denny Hulme, Derek Bell and Australian and New Zealand locals such as Leo Geoghegan, Roly Levis, Jim Palmer, Kevin Bartlett, Spencer Martin, Frank Matich, John Harvey and Graham Lawrence all competed on an equal footing where the locals had a real chance against the Formula One drivers of the day.
The Teams that ventured to our shores include Ferrari, Brabham, Lotus, McLaren, BRM, Cooper, Lola, with local manufacturers represented by Rennmax and Elfin. These cars were powered by engines such as the ageless Coventry Climax, Repco V8, Ford's fabled Ford FVA and DFV and the Cosworth twincam that powered many of the 1.5 litre cars.
The racing was conducted under FAI rules which specified a maximum engine capacity of 2.5 litres, in conjuction with the Australian and New Zealand National Formulas restricted to 1.5 litres.
Theses events were held in the years 1961 1962 1963 1964 1965 1966 1967 1968 1969 with the Tasman Cup being contested from 1964.
The Tasman Revival meeting 2008 will be held at Eastern Creek, Sydney's International Raceway, on 5th 6th 7th December 2008.
