Welcome back to the official website of the Tasman Revival! Preparations for the 2012 Tasman Revival are well under way and our efforts are building each and every day. We’ll be bringing you a lot of useful, interesting and fun content right here, so stay tuned!

Each year on Australia Day, the NRMA and the car community take over a large section of Sydney’s CBD, fill it with lovely old cars and open up the streets for people to wander and take it all in. It’s a fun day with a great atmosphere and is brilliant for introducing classic cars and car culture to people who have not experienced it before.

Our preparations for the 2012 Tasman Revival are building each day, and we took this as an excellent opportunity to meet new people and introduce them to the event.

We set up a miniature paddock across the road from Hyde Park and spent a relaxed and enjoyable day mingling, chatting about cars, life and everything and spreading the word about the Tasman Revival. A huge “Thanks!” to everyone who helped to organise it and who brought their cars along and, of course, any and everyone who stopped by!

Good times were had with great friends. Beautiful historic racing machinery danced, and sometimes pirouetted, with brave and talented drivers in the rain. Lap records were broken. Here are the results for Sunday’s feature races at the 2010 Lotus Sydney Tasman Revival.

The drawing of our ‘Win a Lotus Elise’ competition took place at the 2010 Lotus Sydney Tasman Revival on Sunday afternoon, while brave drivers of various Formula series cars were hanging it all out on a very wet Eastern Creek International Raceway.

We are pleased to announce that the lucky winner of the Elise was ticket number 253, held by John Fraser from Bowral. The car will now be registered in his name and there will be a formal “handing over of the keys” in about a week at Shannons in Sydney.

We would like to thank everyone who entered, and we wish John all the best in his lovely Elise!

The Lotus Sydney Tasman Revival 2010 Opens This Friday, 26^th November!

Months (years) of preparations are complete, and the Lotus Sydney Tasman Revival 2010 is on the grid, engine revving, watching for the lights to turn green.

Starting from tomorrow afternoon, entrants will already be making their way to Eastern Creek International Raceway to get set up for private practice on Thursday, and then qualifications on Friday morning. By Friday afternoon the races will be under way and they won’t stop until Sunday evening!

Sunday in particular is going to be a huge day, offering feature races for all groups, the drawing of our ‘Win a Lotus’ competition, trophy presentations and plenty of paddock-wandering, tyre-smoking social motorsport fun.

Tickets to the Lotus Sydney Tasman Revival 2010 can be purchased at the gate every day during the event, so it’s nice and easy to come along and enjoy some historic racing action!

Children 12 years and under get in for free

Adult prices:

• Friday Only: $20
• Saturday Only: $25
• Sunday Only: $35
• 2/3 Days: $50

Ticket prices include parking, as well as entrance to grandstand seating and the competitor’s paddock (come say hi!). Lost tickets will not be replaced.

Win a Lotus Elise

Programme of Events

One of the most successful Lotus cars ever to race in Australia will be on display at the Tasman Revival Race Meeting at Eastern Creek Raceway on 26-28 November 2010.

The Lotus Elite S1 originally raced by former Australian champion Leo Geoghegan will be part of a special display commemorating the 50^th Anniversary of the first race meeting at the now defunct Warwick Farm circuit.

Imported by Geoghegan in 1960 the nimble fibreglass-bodied racer was immediately a winner, taking victory in that year’s Victorian Grand Tourismo  Championship at Phillip Island and two weeks later winning the Australian GT Championship at Bathurst.

In a 14-month period Geoghegan competed in 26 races, taking outright victory on 18 occasions and scoring class wins (and major outright placings) in another six outings.  The car failed to finish on only one occasion, suffering a gentle rollover after slipping off the Warwick Farm bitumen while chasing the 1961 GT title.

The Climax-engined car was sold in late 1961 to Brian Foley, who continued the car’s success with a multitude of class wins.

In early 1963 the car was retired from competition and was used regularly on the road.  After undergoing a full restoration more than a decade ago, the car was acquired by the present owner who is proud to display a significant part of local motor sport history.

Among the 400 cars competing at the meeting will be 22 examples of the Lotus marque, the most famous being the Lotus 49/R8 to be driven by John Smith.  This car was driven by Graham Hill for Gold Leaf-Team Lotus in the 1969 Tasman Series and is more recently remembered as the winner of the inaugural Tasman Revival race in 2006, when Smith and second-placed Spencer Martin thrilled spectators with a torrid racelong dice.
